The Benefits of Writing
March 11, 2015
This past Christmas while thinking of gift ideas, I wanted to do something meaningful that my family could put to great use. I was also on a budget and wanted to be practical. Thinking back to past gifts I had received, I particularly enjoyed receiving journals and products related to writing. Writing has positively influenced my life and journals would be my gift of choice.
As a writer, it is an amazing feeling to be able to use this medium to express myself. Whether I am writing a news piece or randomly scribbling in a journal, I am able to put my thoughts on paper for either myself, or to share to the entire world. Writing in a journal is also great in regards to topics that are personal. Sharing my personal thoughts with my journal is my way of opening up to someone while ensuring secrecy. This is as opposed to negative venting that another individual has to put up with. This has the same effect, yet it is done positively and safely.
Writing doesn’t have to be your next Christmas gift to others, but you should consider taking up the hobby for yourself. Let that pen and paper be your own personal therapist. Let it be your voice when too shy to let people hear or too scared to tell others. Write it out, release your feelings, and share your thoughts. Many people may prefer therapy, but writing is a great cup of tea.
Three Great Ways to Start Your Morning
March 9, 2015
Waking up for work every Monday through Friday takes a lot out of your body, especially if you’re staying up late at night. It is important to get at least eight hours of sleep, but what can be done in the morning if your body does not get enough rest? Here are some great ideas to gain the motivation to perform effectively in the morning, turning your lethargic body into a energy machine!
Do a ten minute workout
Working your body out in the morning is a great way to start off energized. Although waking up a little earlier to stay on time is a possibility, time won’t be a worry once you consistently incorporate this activity in your morning routine. Throw on some workout clothes and go jogging outside, or do a few yoga poses in the living room for meditation. Once you have warmed up your body and stretched your muscles, you will feel more awake and ready to start your day. Not only will you feel better, you may shed some extra pounds in the process.
Dance, Dance, Dance!
Play a song to help put you in a better mood and make your morning much better. While preparing your things for work, turn on the radio or iTunes music and put on your favorite upbeat, energetic song. I would recommend putting on Pharrell’s “Happy” and dancing around your house. This will put you in an amazing mood and ready to start your day off positively. Dancing is one of the best stress relievers and can turn any lazy morning into a great start.
Eat a healthy breakfast
Again you may have to wake up a little earlier to do so, but it comes with great reward. Before you go to sleep the night before, plan what to eat for breakfast in the morning, and prevent yourself from resorting to your local fast food restaurant. French toast, a meaty omelette or even a colourful frittata would be great options. Most people that start their mornings off negatively and tired haven’t had a proper meal. Investing time into a great breakfast produces a great day. After all, everyone knows that breakfast is the most important part of the day.
What have you done today to live life to the fullest?
The upbringing of a child surely involves the feeding, bathing, soothing and taking care of his/her other physical and emotional needs. Well, that’s not where you need a whole ‘village’ to assist! However, when it comes to shaping personalities, every interaction with the surrounding environment, the ‘village’, counts. And as today’s village is simply the whole world, kids may pick up their principles and attitudes from their daily cartoon show more than what they get from their neighbor, whom they see occasionally.
How is the surrounding environment important in shaping personalities?
Later, this child would break his or her childhood caterpillar and grow into a butterfly that soars into maturity skies. Those wings are not being formed overnight; they are being built one thought at a time over a long period. And those thoughts, attitudes and principles are the results of all the interactions that that child has had with the surrounding environment.
If the decision making process entirely lies within a mature being’s responsibility, the guiding thoughts and principles that govern that decision making process are the result of a long history of interacting with the ‘village’. As neither all villages nor all villagers are pleasant, some of those thoughts that we carry on as adults may be negative, sore or limiting.
At Mind, Body and Soul, we help you during the change process to reclaim power over your own thoughts and subsequently your own actions.
After spending more than 12 years traversing the whole sales cycle of a typical Tech organization, I moved to a new land – hoping to escalate through the career ladder even further. However, a surprise pregnancy flipped my whole existence and chopped my corporate wings perhaps indefinitely. During the months of waiting, I was wallowing in a quagmire of self-pity and negative dialog until I had the courage to meet myself face-to-face. I then rediscovered my real interest: it’s not the coding, nor the pitch, not even planning inventory. It’s the people: reflecting on my career days, I just found it magical to deal with techies and non-techies alike. And because I enjoyed dealing with people, I spent almost equal time trying to understand the human nature, attending self-development trainings and reading thousands of pages of relevant material. I am now NLP trainer, meditation practitioner, and on the way to be certified life coach. I work now with people to build their mindset of being in charge of their own thoughts, and thus be in charge of their own success.
Working Out: The Best Stress Reliever
February 8, 2015
Everyone has had one of those days. You know, when time couldn’t move slower at work, yet you have so much work to do. It seems like nothing is getting done, and your boss keeps adding more pressure to your plate. Maybe you have too many PTA meetings, or the family drama is causing friction in your life and you have reached your daily limit.
When overwhelmed with a lot of stress in your life, the best reliever can be stretching and working out. Nothing better can reduce your negative thoughts than putting it all aside and working out. There are different workout options that would be beneficial to any stressful day. One thing to try is a spin class. Nothing would be better than listening to pumping music, while an instructor tells you to push harder and spin your life away. The fast-paced environment is an excellent way to forget about everything you have on your plate and focus your concentration on how fast you can pedal.
Another option opposite to spinning to relieve stress is yoga. Unlike spinning, yoga is calm and focuses on your breathing. Concentration and focus is used with every move while stretching your body. Yoga takes you to another place of serenity and places you into the calm state you desire. You’ll be so busy focused on your poses and relaxing your body that you can calmly approach your worries later.
One last great workout option is a dance class. Most studios offer dance classes, including hip hop and pop. Taking a dance class with music and friends that you love is the perfect thing to take your mind away from troubles. It is almost like being at home with your friends having fun. Anything interesting to do always puts yourself in another state and brings back positivity in your life.
Working out is always a perfect way to relieve stress in your life. Even if you can’t spin, do yoga, or a fun hip hop class, try taking a run outside while listening to your favorite high-powered songs. Any workout would suffice. Put the focus and positivity back on yourself. Don’t let the stress of life overwhelm you. Take back your power with a great workout!
